“The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams that you can take in high school.” – About AP Website
AP = Advanced Placement
In US schools, AP exams can earn you college level credit and potentially start at higher levels. In other countries, such as Netherlands and the UK, APs are expected to be able to start at university level education. Each country views AP exams differently. Here is a little information about AP around the World.
If you are hoping to apply into a competitive school or program, APs give you a more rigorous transcript and could potentially make your application more competitive; However, because CRICS does not offer AP courses, US universities will take into consideration what is available in your school and not hold it against you.
Most of you will not NEED to take any. If you are unsure, talk with the Academic Counselor.
Currently, CRICS is only offering one course to prepare students for an AP exam. That is Calculus AB. It is not yet officially an AP course. Compartive Government and Economics is also teaches some AP content to help prepare students but additional independent study will be required to cover the content on the exam.
Students may choose to write any AP exam they would like at CRICS during the May 2023 testing, but they will need to prepare for it outside of class. All the AP exams available can be found here.
Information will be sent to families in late August about registration. The cost will be the responsibility of the family.
See the CRICS Secondary Academic Handbook for the full policy regarding AP exams at CRICS.
